Shooting leads to murder charge

A Clay County man faces a murder charge in connection to the April 16 shooting death of Paul Madison Purvis, 47, of Hayesville. Purvis’ body was found Saturday at the end of the driveway of his home on Mountain Laurel Drive, according to Clay County Sheriff Bobby Deese.

Valley River Ringers spring concerts to be held

Valley River Ringers, a community handbell group, will have two spring concerts. Organized and directed by Suzanne West, music director at the First United Methodist Church in Murphy, this group of experienced ringers plays on four octaves of Schulmerich Handbells and four octaves of choir chimes.

Young Harris College invites the community to attend upcoming fine arts events. Events will take place on the YHC campus, which is located at 1 College Street, Young Harris, Ga. and at Sharp Memorial United Methodist Church, which is located at 1114 Main Street, Young Harris, Ga.

Multicultural Women’s Development Conference Returns

Suspended for two years during the earliest stages of the COVID-19 pandemic, the Multicultural Women’s Development Conference will return to the Hinton Rural Life Center on Friday and Saturday, April 29 and 30. A production of One Dozen Who Care, Inc.

'Heart 2 Heart' outreach group meets April 14

The Misty Mountain Quilters Guild’s “Heart 2 Heart” outreach group will meet from 10 a.m. to 2 p.m. on Thursday, April 14 in the Pat Haralson Memorial Civic Center auditorium on Wellborn Street in Blairsville, for a fun workday. Beginning quilters are welcome.

Battery powered yard equipment update

Five years ago, when I wrote about vacuums and other household gadgets that were designed for battery power, the performance was disappointing. Under-powered and expensive, the affordable models could not perform the way corded or gas versions did.

FBI fugitive arrested in Towns Co. drug bust

The Towns County Sheriff’s Office arrested a Baldwin, Ga. man Tuesday on multiple drug charges. As it turned out, he is also wanted by the FBI on previous charges including racketeering.
