Yellow Jackets kick off season

Smoky Mountain All-Conference standouts Kyle Lunsford, No. 7, Logan Caldwell., No. 6, and Taylor McClure, No. 20, are big reasons why Hayesville football coaches and fans are optimistic about the 2022 season. The talented trio accounted for more than 4,000 yards of offense last year.

All Star team claims second in tournament

Following up on last years 10U Championship, this years Clay County 12U All Stars traveled to Blue Ridge to compete in this years' Mountain Athletic Conference 12U tournament. The Jackets battled to a second place finish. Quite an accomplishment for a relatively young team.

Hiawasee River Bass Club winners for May 14 on Lake Chatuge are: • First place - Luke Barrett - five fish - 16.63 pound. • Second place -  Josh Cook - five fish - 13.92 pound. • Third place - Luke Morrow - five fish - 12.82 pound. • Fourth place - Jimmy Anderson - five fish - 12.74 pound.

Jackets excel at state meet

By Deby Jo Ferguson        Sports Writer   Hayesville’s Lady Jackets finished 12th in the State Track Meet held in Greensboro, N.C. last Saturday; the boys finished 25th. There were 23 performances which met the MileSplit U.S.

Register for youth football, cheerleading

Clay County Youth Football and Cheerleading League will have football sign ups from 8-10:30 a.m. Saturday, June 18 at the Black and Gold Center in Hayesville. Take a copy of a birth certificate and all players’ physicals for this year.

HMS sends three to state meet

By Deby Jo Ferguson Sports Writer      Hayesville’s Middle School track team qualified three athletes to the State Elite Invitational meet at Gaston Christian School in Gastonia on Saturday, May 7. The three competing Jackets were Blaire Hedden, Will Brown and Landon Trout.

Varsity baseball out of playoffs
