D'Avino, Gutierrez named Peach Belt Players of the Week

Young Harris College goalkeeper Eduardo D'Avino and defender Federico Gutierrez have been named Peach Belt Conference Men's Soccer Players of the Week ending Oct. 17. D'Avino was named the league's Goalkeeper of the Week, while Gutierrez was selected the Defender of the Week.

Catamount Quiet Bulldogs on Saturday

Freshman Bailey Hartsough recorded her second straight double-double with a team-best 13 kills and 13 digs as Western Carolina defeated The Citadel 3-0 in Southern Conference action on Saturday on Ingles Court at the Ramsey Center. The Catamounts won by scores of 25-19, 25-19, and 25-21.

Wilde leads No. 5 Mountain Lions over Bearcats 4-1

 Charlie Wilde scored twice to lead No. 5 Young Harris College over Lander University 4-1 in a Peach Belt Conference men's soccer match Saturday (Oct. 16) afternoon at Van Taylor Stafium.

Yellow Jackets sweep cross country meet

Hayesville Middle School cross country runners travelled to Robbinsville Wednesday, Oct. 6 to compete in the Currahee Classic. Strong individual performances resulted in HMS taking the top spot in both the girls and boys events.

Catamounts Welcome UNCG on Wednesday

Western Carolina volleyball opens a four-match homestand on Wednesday night as the Catamounts welcome UNCG to Ingles Court at the Ramsey Center for a 6 p.m. contest. Admission to Wednesday’s match is free of charge and fans can attend without capacity restrictions.

Mountain Lions remain ranked fifth in United Soccer Coaches poll

The Mountain Lions improved to 11-0-0 overall and to 7-0-0 in the Peach Belt Conference after picking up two PBC victories. Young Harris defeated Clayton State University 2-1 on the road before recording a 4-0 shutout over Flagler College at home.

JV Jackets begin week with rocky start

Folks who have had rocky starts to a week know that often, it’s up to them to turn things around. That held true for the junior varsity Hayesville High School volleyball team last week as they suffered defeat in two games against conference foe Murphy at home Tuesday, Oct. 5.

HMS rollercoaster ride this week

The Hayesville Middle School Lady Yellow Jackets got off to a great start last week as they won two games over Murphy Tuesday, Oct. 5 with scores of 25-12 and 25-12 respectively.
