Cross country gets pair of wins

Runners from Rosman and Highlands travelled to Hayesville on Wednesday, Dec. 9 to face the Yellow Jacket cross country teams. It was Hayesville’s second home meet of the season and the Jackets defended their home turf.

Lady Jackets mount memorable comeback

The varsity Lady Yellow Jacket volleyball team has squared off with a trio of tough opponents in recent days. On Tuesday, Dec. 8 Hayesville hosted Swain County and came away with a 3-0 win. Then on Friday, the team travelled to Hiwassee Dam where they picked up another 3-0 victory.

Tri County ends season with rare afternoon show

On Saturday, Dec. 5 the first time ever, racing fans passed through the ticket gate to watch December racing at Tri County Racetrack. The event was the season finale for the track and served as a toy drive for Toys for Tots.

Devils edge out Jackets at meet in Swain County

Cross country runners representing Hayesville Middle School made the journey to Bryson City Wednesday, Dec. 2 to compete in Swain County’s home meet. The Lady Jackets and Yellow Jacket teams had strong individual finishes which put them second in the results behind the hosting Maroon Devils.

Middle school team endures first defeat

The Lady Jacket volleyball team from Hayesville Middle School has been able to get the best of any opponent willing to take the court. That run of victories came to an end Wednesday, Dec. 1 against Cherokee. The match, delayed by snow 23 hours due to snow, was a tough one.

Both HHS volleyball teams pick up wins

A limited number of Lady Yellow Jacket volleyball fans entered The Hive Wednesday, Dec. 2 to watch the JV and varsity teams take on Cherokee. The matches were scheduled for Tuesday, but inclement weather forced a postponement.

Jackets strong at Swain

Hayesville High School’s cross country athletes hit the road Wednesday, Dec. 2 to compete against Hiwassee Dam and meet host Swain County. For the first time this season, Hayesville wasn’t atop the podium as both the women’s and mens teams finished in the runner-up sport to the Maroon Devils.

Sickel earns championship gold

When Fred Sickel heard about the North Carolina Senior Games going virtual due to COVID-19 regulations, he figured he might as well give it a shot. That shot was a bullseye that landed him a pickleball state championship.

Ashe and Dye lead middle school to win

Hayesville Middle School cross country runners traveled to Cherokee Tuesday, Nov. 24 for the second meet of the season. As they did in their first meet, Hayesville swept the girls and boys events with wins.
