Cruisers to open August with a show

The Blairsville Cruisers will host a cruise-in at the Union County Farmers Market from 3-7 p.m. on Saturday, Aug. 1 from 3-7 p.m. Approximately 100 vehicles are expected to register for the event.

On Tuesday, July 21 the Chatuge Shores Ladies Golf Association met for a game of Select Nine. Each player had to decide before their first tee shot what nine they were selecting either front or back nine.

Madden breaks Overton’s streak

Chris “Smokey” Madden claimed his third victory of the Schaeffer’s Oil Southern Nationals Series at Tri County Race Track on Tuesday, July 21.  Madden earned $3,500 for his 27th career victory on the tour while driving the Millwood Motorsports Rocket Chassis .

Robinson lands victory

Chris Robinson took big fish 5.21 pound Largemouth and the win during the Hiawassee River Bass July tournament on Lake Nottley. Here’s how the other top anglers fared: First place: Chris Robinson, five fish, 12.54 pounds.                  Second place: Randy Cook , five fish, 10.97 pounds.

The Chatuge Shores Ladies Golf Association enjoyed another beautiful day on the course Tuesday, July 14. Bill Rinaldo and his staff have things looking gorgeous and in great shape. Players competed in Step Aside Scramble. If a team chose a golfer’s shot, that golfer must sit out on the next shot.

Officials delay fall sports

The North Carolina High School Athletic Association announced last week that fall sports would be delayed until “at least” Sept. 1. The association also made the decision to keep teams in Phase 1 which allows for workouts with several limitations due to COVID-19 restrictions.

The players of the Moutain Harbour Ladies Golf Association tried to stay “chill” in warmer temps than they were used to Thursday, July 16. Winners did the Cha-Cha-Cha, some did the Samba and a couple did the Twist.

Your NASCAR is dead

As a NASCAR fan, I follow the official NASCAR social media accounts. No matter what the organization posts, the comment section will be hijacked by people saying, “NASCAR is dead. I don’t even watch it.” Now the latter half of that statement always confuses me.

Peach Belt Conference announces updates to fall semester

The Peach Belt Conference has announced that all fall competition involving cross country, volleyball and soccer will be delayed until Oct 1. The unanimous decision was made by the PBC Board of Directors, comprised of the presidents and chancellors of the league's institutions.

Eric Quinn named Director of Golf at Young Harris College

Young Harris College Director of Athletics Jennifer Rushton announced the hiring of Eric Quinn as the Director of Golf for the Mountain Lions. "I am thrilled to welcome Eric Quinn to Young Harris College as our next Director of Golf," said Rushton.
