Racing legend wins at Tri County

Following a 24-hour delay, the gates at Tri County Racetrack opened and fans entered, socially distancing, to watch a night of dirt-slinging action. The main event on the schedule was a 40-lap race featuring the Topless Outlaw Late Model Series.

‘Chainbuster’ sets records

Payne reigns at Tri County

Monday, Sept. 7 saw racing fans gather in Brasstown for the annual Labor Day Championships at Tri County Racetrack. All weekly divisions were in action along with the Super Late Model main event for $2,000. The first race of the night didn’t take long to get exciting.

Scholarship golf tournament approaches

The date for the 2020 Bethel-Guidry College Schol- arship Golf Tournament will be Saturday, Sept. 26 at Mountain Harbour Golf Club in Hayesville. This event raises funds for deserving high school graduates from Clay County and Towns County, Ga.

Hamby returns to victory lane in Brasstown

After a rain out on Friday, Aug. 28, Tri County Racetrack promoter Ray Cook moved the entire racing agenda to the following night. Roger Beaver was the man to beat in the Street Stock race, the first of the night. Beaver and his black No. 12 led every lap with Alex Vance in pursuit.

Changes in store for school sports scheduling

The North Carolina High School Athletic Association has released its modified sports calendar for the 2020- 21 school year. Commissioner Que Tucker made the announcement Wednesday, Aug. 12 via a Zoom press conference. With the new scheduling, all sports are on hold until Nov.

Cruisers to honor Bruce

The Blairsville Cruisers Car Club will honor deceased club member Tom Bruce with the annual Tom Bruce Memorial Car Show on Saturday, Aug. 15 from 3-7 p.m.  Tom was a Ford guy and a trophy for Best Ford will be presented by Phyllis Bruce in his honor at this event.

Collins holds off Chastain for victory

Promoter Ray Cook opened the gates for fans to watch the racing action Friday, Aug. 7 at Tri County Racetrack. The event was originally scheduled for the previous week but rain forced a postponement.  Following practice, qualifying and heat races, it was time for feature events.
